Pie-&-Pudding-Oct-2009

It seems like we’re bombarding you lately with all kinds of bits of news… I guess we have a lot going on!

We’re proud to announce the return of our Pie & Pudding offer, albeit it’s slightly different to how we used to run it. We are now offering you the choice of ANY of the pies from our menu, served with mushy peas, chips and gravy, and either a homemade marmalade bread and butter pudding or a homemade fruit crumble, each served with custard, for the special price of only £10.

The offer is only available between 12 and 3, Mondays to Saturdays, but represents a saving of at least £4.30 over the normal separate price.

We’ve also re-introduced another of our winter favourites… Winter Pimms! Available by the glass or the teapot, it is a delicious apple-juice-based beverage that has been popular ever since we introduced it a couple of years ago.

Do we spoil you, or what? xx

Bonfire-Night-PageSo, first things first… Thanks so much to all of you that came down to our Caribbean Night, especially Delroy who truly made the evening special, entertaining us all as we danced the night away!

Our Bonfire Night will be the next ‘event’ at the pub, and this year we’ll be hoping to make it our most successful yet. The weather wasn’t too kind to us last year, but the fireworks and gigantic bonfire more than made up for it. We’re crossing all of our fingers and toes, though, and hopefully Pete will refrain from sharing his singing voice with the rest of us, so that this year will be a dry one.

We’ll be lighting the bonfire and releasing the fireworks into the heavens on SATURDAY 7th NOVEMBER 2009, from around 7pm onwards. There will be an outdoor BBQ, and for the first time ever entrance will be FREE! However, we will be collecting for BBC Children In Need, and ask that donations are made to help support this wonderful cause. Please give generously!

We’ve moved the location of the bonfire from previous years, so that the ‘top field’ can be used for parking, to ease congestion on the surrounding roads. But we suggest getting here early, if no more to make sure you get a good space than to soak up the atmosphere of what is always an enjoyable evening.

On a final note, you may also have noticed that we’ve now put our Christmas Fayre and Christmas Day menus up here on the website… Click here to find out more.

Although not directly an article about the pub, the Fleur de Lys was mentioned in an article in this week’s Telegraph by Max Davidson, where he met Phillippa Greenwood and Martine O’Callaghan, authors of a guide book called ‘Cool Canals’.

As the British summer draws to an end, and the weather begins to turn decidedly more ‘English’, we’re going to keep the warm summer spirit alive by hosting our very first CARIBBEAN NIGHT at the Fleur de Lys!

Following on from the successes of our recent ‘Curry’ and ‘Mediterranean’ Nights, we’re hoping that this will be the best theme-night yet!

3 courses for £19.95… Book early to avoid disappointment!

Flip flops and straw hats optional!

Call 01564 782 431 or email mail@fleurdelys-lowsonford.com for bookings and enquiries.

Hey everyone! Hope you’re all keeping well, it’s been good to see more than a few of you down here the last few weeks!

Thanks to everyone who came to our Mediterranean Night last Friday… Unfortunately, we weren’t able to update the site beforehand to give you a warning that it was going to happen, but it didn’t stop you coming out in force to support the night and enjoy some fine mediterranean cuisine – so thanks guys!

You may have noticed a few changes around the pub over the last month or so, and you can expect some more in the weeks to come. The main one will be that we are extending the patio area, to allow us to serve more food outside during the nice weather that we’re finally having this year (logistic and safety reasons have prevented us from serving food over on the grassy area near to the canal, but extending the patio will hopefully solve that issue). The new tables arrived today, and we’ll be moving the fence over the next week or so, so watch this space!

We’ve also installed a new music system, which allows us to have complete control over what you listen to, rather than having to play what we’re told to by someone hundreds of miles away… Expect everything from Earth, Wind & Fire, through Jamiroquai and Seasick Steve, to The Kinks and Motown’s finest. If you’ve got a band or an artist that you’d like to suggest for us, we’d love to hear from you. We’re all music lovers with a wide and varied taste, so anything new for us to listen to is always welcomed and appreciated. Send us an email or let us know in person when you’re here!

Staff-wise, we’ve also welcomed back a few old faces and brought in some new blood to ensure that all you hungry and thirsty customers are kept suitably quenched and satisfied over these glorious summer months, when we inevitably get busier as you come to enjoy the canalside gardens and relaxing atmosphere. We hope your next visit will be even more enjoyable than the last!

Finally for this blog entry, we’d like to appeal to any musicians who are interested in performing at the pub to get in touch, as we’re keen to start putting more live acts on again and looking for talent. Drop us a line or send us your details on an email, it’ll be great to hear from you.

Until next time, enjoy the summer sunshine, and don’t leave it too long before you come back! We miss you already!

Love from all at the Fleur. xx
